  • Essay / Queen Elizabeth and Her Conflicts - 1481

Queen Elizabeth I was one of the most famous monarchs and one of the most successful female rulers in history (Row 243). During her reign, she would have kept a long and eternal peace. Wikianswers believes that the main conflict she had during her reign was over "aspects of the Catholic religion". Yes, a religious colony in England was to be established, but her throne was initially threatened by her sister and her cousin's intrusion later greatly impacted and challenged Elizabeth. I think these are the obstacles she faced the most during her reign. But she wasn't always first in line for the seat of royalty. Elizabeth was the child of King Henry and Anne Boleyn (Galli), born in 1533. King Henry had a former wife named Catherine of Argon with whom they gave birth to Mary in the year 1516. King Henry, of course, wanting a male heir, kept trying and eventually had a boy in 1537 with Jane Seymour named Edward VI. Edward was agreed to inherit the throne, but died very young, leaving Henry's children of Mary I as next in line (Galli). King Henry lived to the age of 55 and died due to poor health. It was the year 1547 and Mary, her successor, became queen. Mary I “suffered a terrible childhood of neglect, intolerance and poor health,” Galli says. Over her years, she went from being high in status to losing everything due to a change in law, then having it all back and reinstatement to the throne. Her main goal as queen was to restore Catholicism and she was very committed. She was named Bloody Mary due to the fact that she burned 300 Protestants at the stake, which explains why "her reign was unpopular" (Galli). Thomas Wyatt led a rebellion with many Protestants to dethrone her. Mary was sure that El...... middle of paper ......gue rest in her bed. She died in March 1603 (Queen Elizabeth I). Queen Elizabeth never had children, so her successor was James VI of Scotland who became James I of England. He was the son of Mary Stuart and was king of Scotland, Ireland and finally England from 1603 at the age of 37 (Wikipedia). He was a talented scholar and the "golden age" continued under his reign. During Elizabeth's 45 years of British rule, she battled difficult obstacles such as religious strife, the reign of Mary Tudor, the people's desire to overthrow her, and the intrusion of Mary Queen of Scots. . She faced these trials and managed to achieve the title of England's greatest monarch. This influential female leader left her inspiration and knowledge to future monarchs and the British government for many years. She also brought her country stability and a sense of identity (Rowse 245).
