  • Essay / Educational system - 1139

“Educational system”High school is a place where you grow physically and mentally. In high school, you start as a freshman and graduate your senior year. Throughout this life, a lot has happened and you are constantly learning as you grow. But I know that many high schools, including mine, are not perfect and have flaws in their education systems that can be corrected to provide a better learning environment. Learning is a never-ending process that we learn from our personal experiences. Although Americans believe in our education system, there seem to be many issues that we are not aware of that have a negative effect on our students as a whole. One of the problems facing the education system is the barrier between school and life. Schools need to break down barriers to connecting, going to school to learn and living life. Students need to be told that learning doesn't stop after the bell rings or it's time to leave, it happens all the time. In "School is Bad for Children," John Holt says, "'You come to school to learn,' we tell him, as if the child had never learned before, as if life were there and learning here, and there is no connection between the two” (34). I think schools sometimes play a role of separation from life because they have the rule of "you come to school to learn" and that's it. Children come to school curious to learn with other people, especially other children, but when school teaches them to be indifferent, they lose all interaction with the world. Holt explains: “You could say that school is one long lesson in how to switch off, which may be one reason why so many young people are seeking the world awareness and responsiveness that they had when They were small. think they can only find it in medicines” (35). Disconnecting the student from the real world, that is, from life, allows them to believe that drugs are acceptable, which is bad. School and life are related topics because you live your life while going to school, which can affect how you learn. Problems and other situations that arise in your life can cause you to lose focus, which affects the way you learn. Enabling school and learning to connect will break down barriers and create a better environment for students to function..
