They were told "This is the Titanic, the unsinkable ship", but what did they say when the ship broke in two and began to sink. Did they all still believe that nothing could sink the magnificent Titanic? Or did the reality of the ship finally “sink”? These are questions that people still ask themselves today. The sinking of the Titanic was a tragic accident that still affects culture today. The RMS (Royal Mail Steamer) Titanic was the second of three superliners built by the White Star Line to cross the Atlantic. The superliner was 882 feet long, it was longer than New York's tallest skyscraper at the time, and the rudder alone was heavier than Christopher Columbus' Santa Maria. The Titanic was built with 20,000 tons of steel and iron. When the Titanic was built in 1912, it cost the White Star Line $7.5 million.
