    Living the American dream was a goal that most families tried to achieve. Living the dream included simple things like being faithful to your spouse , raising his family to love and earn an honest living At times this goal may have seemed out of reach and that's where the lies came in. The blatant disregard for honesty, ultimately leading to. destruction, can be seen in the two literary works, The Death of Arthur Miller a Salesman and The Great Gasby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Both novels address similar themes regarding the instability and ignorance of the two main characters. Willy Loman and Jay Gatsby both find themselves living in fantasy worlds, Willy is still convinced that even at his age and stature he is capable of achieving the American dream, where Jay is very much in love with a fair woman. out of his reach but still insists on creating a life for the two of them out of excess pride, adultery and false material. Security are some of the issues that preoccupy our protagonists, all causing bitterness and disappointment. Relying on their imagination rather than reality is something that Willy and Jay struggle with and is directly related to their ability to acquire their unique versions of the American dream. Willy Loman is a family man who, with his misrepresentation, seemed to have the perfect life. . When you look closer, the flaws are visible in his American dream for many different reasons, one of which is infidelity. Linda Loman, his beloved wife, was always there for him. She supported Willy emotionally when money was low and always offered him a listening ear. Although he seems to have tried his best to be a good father, he was not always a faithful husband. Dishonesty leading to disappointment and tragedy is evident in both literary works, "Death of a Salesman" and "The Great Gatsby." Excessive pride, adultery and false material security are some of the problems that preoccupy our protaganists, all ultimately leading to their demise. Through the works it is shown, example for example, how dishonesty towards family, friends and especially towards oneself is destructive for everyone around us..
