    In 2008, the number of homeschooled children exceeded 1.5 million in America. Currently, the number of homeschooled children in America now exceeds two million. This number has increased from seven percent of American children being homeschooled to fifteen percent. Homeschooling was frowned upon by society, as the public said that homeschooled children did not develop the social skills they would learn in public schools due to the lack of interaction with their peers. Additionally, their education was thought to be insufficient if they were not taught by a professional teacher. In fact, they develop necessary social skills because their parents care for them and many are part of homeschooling groups. Some of these children travel more and meet new people. Homeschooled students are often stereotyped as antisocial and awkward because they do not have the same type of interaction with other students their age as public or private school students. In reality, homeschooled students benefit from just as much social interaction as children educated in regular schools. Homeschooled children participate in many activities outside of their home.
