  • Essay / History of Pakistan Navy - 2474

INTRODUCTION1. Pakistan Navy is a four-dimensional force of Pakistan but has been neglected due to lack of awareness among Pakistan's policy think tanks regarding the geopolitical importance of Pakistan's coastal belt and the proper role of Pakistan Navy in its best utilization. Pakistan Navy is today undergoing major and effective changes in order to become a regional force. Since the birth of Pakistan, the Navy has proven its effectiveness and efficiency at all times.2. Pakistan Navy has a defined mission and vision to defend its exclusive economic zone, offshore economic resources, maritime lines of communication and to protect its merchant fleet which is important for Pakistan's trade as the bulk of Pakistan's trade is done by sea. In this regard, Pakistan Navy has developed its resources and improved its tactics and strategies. Pakistan Navy has emerged as a major player in maintaining regional maritime security in the years to come, as a vigilant and capable naval force.3. The risk of blockade remained an essential point of consideration in the PN's strategic thinking. Pakistan learned this lesson from the devastation of the 1971 war, when, although the PN placed its surface fleet along the Pakistani coast in an attempt to repel Indian naval forces, Indian missile boats managed to hit Karachi. But this was not seen as a failure of the sea denial strategy, as it was interpreted as a case of insufficient resources to protect Pakistan's coast. Since then, Pakistan has placed special emphasis on strengthening maritime reconnaissance and underwater warfare capabilities to mitigate the threat of a blockade off Karachi. Every acquisition of PN seems to pursue a dominant middle of paper......coming from Western countries, the relations between UK and Pakistan are not that deep and strong. Pakistan needs to improve its research and development sector. Indigenous development must be strengthened and appreciated in the defense sector, even if it is achieved with cooperation from China. Pakistan Navy receives the lowest share of the defense budget, which needs to be revised as PN requires more budget for future development of platforms and maintenance of current platforms26. 95% of Pakistan's trade is by sea and almost all energy imports are by sea. Therefore, to ensure their smooth functioning without any interference, resources must be generated for a more robust and responsible Navy for maritime security. The Pakistan Navy requires nuclear-capable submarine platforms to counterbalance the IN's submarine supremacy, and this is in the best interest of peace and security in South Asia..
