    There are many programs in the community that can provide these services. Some of these services include: employee assistance programs (EAPs), support groups, such as 12-step programs (Alcoholics Anonymous [AA] and Narcotics Anonymous [NA]) and peer support groups, inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment programs, individual counseling (Crowley, 2013). These programs are used to help nurses stop using destructive substances, re-enter society in a healthy manner, and regain their ability to practice nursing. The fight against drug addiction in nursing can integrate the three levels of prevention: primary, secondary and tertiary. The first level of prevention involves: providing information preventing the introduction of exposures that cause illness or injury, modifying unhealthy or unsafe behaviors that may lead to illness or injury.
