The True Character of God Exposed in the Book of JobThe Book of Job offers many complex and abstract ideas. It can also be viewed in a simple way, viewing it as a folk tale trying to explain the inexplicable forces of fate and chance. The story is often interpreted as another strange episode of Yahweh Almighty demanding blind faith in the midst of overwhelming and sadistic trials. At first glance, the picture is painted of a cruel and uncaring God who is most interested in his bet with Satan over the trustworthiness of his faithful disciple Job. The ending is often overlooked overall. The trial he undergoes is for his improvement and, like Abraham's abortive sacrifice of Isaac, it reveals the true character of God. The first chapter tells us that Job was very conscientious in his worship, even being recognized as "the greatest man in the world." the Està (Job 1:3).
