This is because process and outcome data provide first-hand information about patient experiences. Regarding the patient with colon cancer; this data can provide information such as: the nature of the pain felt by the patient; overall patient behavior, skin assessment, side effects of medications for researchers (Reverby, 1987). Thus, analyzing various process data would enable nurses to find the most effective way to care for these patients. Additionally, process and outcome data would also provide in-depth understanding of the disease. Jones (2007) stated that due to the documentation of various processes and interventions; concerned doctors could further their research into the disease. This research may involve comparing various data from different patients, thereby contributing to the standardization of several nursing interventions (Stone and Walker, 2007). Essentially, this would result in safer and better quality nursing care.
