The belief was that the expansion of the United States was a divine event and that the rights of all other races were being violated. Manifest Destiny was the expansion of the Anglo-Saxon white race, influencing events such as wars and resulting in white supremacy. The white population believed they had a “God-given” right to take land from what they considered inferior races, namely Mexicans and Native Americans. Additionally, the Whites believed they could make better use of the territories they had conquered and stimulate their own economy. There was even a minority group who believed that expansion was inevitable due to the rapid growth of the white population.
