    The film Blood Diamond depicts the struggles and wars over “conflict diamonds” that took place in Sierra Leone at the time. It was directed by Edward Zwick and filmed in Sierra Leone, Mozambique and South Africa. The film's main characters are Solomon Vandy, an African captured by RUF rebels to mine for diamonds, Danny Archer, a diamond trader and smuggler, and Maddy Bowen, a journalist who was reporting on events in Sierra Leon at the time. The film Blood Diamond provides an excellent example of the status and class differences between men and women in Sierra Leon.
