Why I Chose to Become a TeacherPeople choose a career for many different reasons. Many choose a career because it pays well or because there is a large job market for that career. However, none of these reasons were a factor in my decision to pursue a career in education. I decided to become a teacher because I want to impact and help others. Two people have served as examples to me of how teaching will help me achieve this: my mother (a first-year teacher) and one of her former students. My mother has been teaching for almost 30 years. She is without a doubt one of the most exceptional teachers in the profession. She has developed an effective teaching method that combines knowledge, firmness, discipline and, above all, compassion. For as long as I can remember, her former students have approached her in public. Even though some of them are in their thirties, they still call her "Ms." King." She was invited to weddings and cried at funerals of former students. Observing this, it is clear to me that she had a significant impact on the lives of these students. It is also clear to me that they had a profound influence on her. Like my mother, I hope to be the kind of teacher that students remember One year, there was a girl named Keri in my mother's class. completely blind from an optic nerve tumor. My mother often told me stories about her students, and my first reaction to hearing about Keri was to feel sorry for her. I imagined a sad, moody little girl. who found no joy in life, but I was pleasantly surprised when I met her. She had beautiful red hair and the most adorable smile, which she showed in the middle of a sheet of paper.. ..... being a teacher, my goal is to obtain a degree in elementary education from Concord College. After I graduate, I will either pursue graduate studies or start teaching. I plan to have a long and very rewarding career and hope to inspire many young children. I also hope to teach many future students who inspire me. These reasons explain why I chose to become a teacher. By using some of the methods I have mentioned, as well as demonstrating a caring attitude, I hope to ensure that students learn to the fullest of their abilities. I also want the entire learning experience in my classroom to be enjoyable and memorable. I will never forget Keri, and there are hundreds of students who will never forget my mother (myself included). Knowing this gives me a good feeling and I just hope that one day I can have this effect on someone..
