Why IE? The word industrial engineering is still anonymous to the majority of the population in India compared to other fields like mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, and I was no exception, until I discovered this course during the first year of my university. I often wondered about the uniqueness of engineering and management, and their mutual importance. Any organization, whether it is a hospital or an industry, must be a perfect blend of engineering and management for its smooth functioning. Every time I thought about this topic, a question would pop up and leave me perplexed. Is there a single course that merges these two fields? When I did a meticulous search for such a course, I came to know about the Industrial Engineering specialty. Through extensive research into the course, I discovered its multiple applications. I recognized that it could be related to everything from determining the queue order of a ticket window to designing the pipeline layout of an oil industry, industrial engineers have a vital role in minimizing time and other essential factors. After realizing that this course would provide so much challenge and fun, I recognized that this course was for me and was deeply unhappy that I had not learned about the course sooner. But it was not too late, since I opted for production engineering in my bachelor's degree, I followed research like ergonomics and operations which I chose for my current semester and which m allowed us to acquire more detailed knowledge about the course. have my contributions to many activities which include organizing departmental national level symposia for three con...... middle of article ......area of interest which I discussed with my guide of project who is also the head of Department of my decision to carry out a project in the field of industrial engineering, he was initially surprised, but after explaining my future research interest in this field, he easily accepted my request and agreed to guide me throughout the project. My current project is “Inventory Reduction” of raw materials and finished products for the famous valve manufacturer Severn Glocon Pvt Ltd, Chennai and another project is on “Productivity Improvement” at TI Cycles India Pvt Ltd, Chennai. Since both of these projects were related to industrial engineering, I had to go through arduous homework and overtime with my professors regarding the unfamiliar concepts.
