Essay / Law to Revise Age for Carrying a Concealed Weapon in Arizona...
In Arizona, you must be at least twenty-one years old to legally carry a concealed weapon. However, changing the law will be difficult due to recent violent shootings, including in Boston, Sandy Hook, Tucson and Aurora. The law states that “you must be at least 21 years of age or older” (arizonacocealedcarry). Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed two bills up for passage this year that covered the topic of concealed carry. The first, House Bill 2339, states that people with permits can carry concealed weapons into government buildings. House Bill 2517 “would punish cities that enact laws stricter than state law” (Rau par 2). Among those most likely to pursue new legislation are the parties involved in the 2011 Tuscon, Arizona shootings and conservatives (but not exclusively to those groups). Government involvement is necessary because we need an effort to change legislation that has not been changed since 2010 (Kiley par 2). Across the United States, there are alternative bills in the 2014 legislation. In 2015, we may consider passing one for Arizona if it fits our cause. In Georgia, there is legislation to pass a law allowing open carry of firearms in schools, bars and churches as long as the owner has not prohibited their carry as well as concealed carry for military personnel eighteen years and over, provided they satisfy. other specifications. Churches like Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed, will ban all guns on their premises. This in turn could make the bill more difficult to pass. However, many pro-gun groups support the bill and "Many openly carried handguns, and some wore National Rifle Association hats and buttons...... middle of paper ..... .ry/news/politics/2014 /04/23/arizona-governor-brewer-vetoes-gun-bills/8053753/>.Sayers, Devon and McLaughlin Eliott. “Georgia law allows guns in certain schools, bars and churches.” CNN US April 23, 2014, n. page.
