  • Essay / The Myth of Beauty By Naomi R. Wolf - 1153

Wolf, Naomi. The myth of beauty. Toronto: Vintage Books, 1991. Print.Naomi R. Wolf is an American author and former political consultant. In “Beauty Myth,” Wolf accuses the fashion and beauty industry of contributing to “Iron Maiden.” Wolf says these industries target and exploit women's insecurities, causing men's high expectations and women's low self-esteem. Wolf is trying to inspire men and women to speak out against this false sense of beauty created by big business, which is then used to objectify and humiliate women. Wolf's easy-to-understand analysis is why I became interested in my research. Her article will provide me with information and examples of how women are affected by the visual images advertised by fashion and beauty companies. The problem with Wolf's article will have to be that his information from 1991 will be out of date by 2014, so I will have to be selective and be aware and update any facts I use that may have changed over the years . For hooks, awareness is a vital element of feminism; whether women are aware of their op...... middle of paper ......developments already progressed in the field of media and body research. She claims that the images used by the media are the main cause of image dissatisfaction. This article will provide my research paper with a large amount of statistics and solutions to prevent the internalization of false body images advertised by the media. The article is very detailed and precise; he uses other articles to support his conclusions. Dittmar suggests that we need more credible research due to the complexity of the topic at hand. The limitation that the article might have would be the fact that it is no longer up to date with 2014, but to account for any information that is not accurate, I will only use data that coincides with both the past and present. This article will be a main article containing several facts and statistics that I can use in my research paper..
