  • Essay / Hydraulic Fracturing Problem - 772

What is the problem with hydraulic fracturing? I'll start by describing what hydraulic fracturing is and then explain the problem that arises from it. Hydraulic fracturing is a process used in natural gas wells in the United States, where millions of gallons of water, sand and chemicals are pumped underground to break up rock and release the gas. This process allows producers to recover natural gas and oil. This is a benefit to our economy because it reduces the country's dependence on foreign oil and it also reduces emissions (CO2) from air quality. The problem with hydraulic fracturing is that the chemicals used in fracking can pose a threat either underground or when the waste fluids are handled and sometimes dumped on the surface. Some of these fluids enter the water wells of people who live near fracking wells and pollute them, making it very dangerous to do anything with them, even to come into contact with them. Hydraulic fracturing poses a threat to the people and animals living in shale. This is a big deal because the threat is so serious that its effects could potentially alter or even end a human's lifespan. Argument If chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing spill onto the surface as liquid waste, this poses a threat to humans. Chemicals are dumped on the surface and become liquid waste following hydraulic fracturing. Therefore, these waste fluids pose a threat to humans. My argument is deductive because I am saying that waste fluids pose a threat to humans and I will have more specific information on how they actually affect humans. The type of argument is Modus Ponens because it asserts the antecedent.ResearchHydraulic fracturing, also called hydraulic fracturing, was created and used to create...... middle of paper ......es the air with hazardous chemicals states: "Benzene, a carcinogen and chemicals that can irritate the eyes and cause headaches, sore throats or difficulty breathing, have been found in the air near the wells" . People who live near wells are at high risk of developing cancer due to chemicals released into the air. Although when people talk about fracking they usually think about how it contaminates water, the main concern is the air being polluted. Water can be replaced with bottled water from different regions, but air can only be replaced if everyone has a respirator with them at all times. The scary thing is that some of the chemicals used in fracking are unknown to most people and most people don't really know the effects that certain chemicals could potentially have by simply breathing them in...
