    Many people are familiar with the concept of premature birth, but most people don't know all the details. It is common for people to be unaware of why they occur, if and how they can be prevented, possible surgeries the child may have to face, or even long-term health problems. The complications unfortunately don't stop there. Depending on the severity of the situation, the parents and child may have a long road ahead. Parents will have a constant job of monitoring the health and development of their child. I will highlight all the consequences of premature births and the struggles that parents and child will have to endure every day after birth.Why do premature births occur? No one yet knows exactly why they occur. Doctors can make educated guesses and conduct research on the subject, but they don't have exact answers. This could be due to many complications such as diabetes, high blood pressure, lack of prenatal care, short time between the birth of the mother's last child and many more which will be covered later. Most of the time, premature births cannot be prevented, but steps can always be taken to boost the chances of having a healthier baby and mother. Women should always be aware of all the consequences that may arise during pregnancy in order to be well prepared for any situation. Premature births are usually unanticipated and occur without warning. I want to address some obstetric complications that can occur during pregnancy and why they can lead to premature birth. Many different people, such as a neonatal nurse practitioner, neonatal physician assistant, neonatologist, and many others, will watch over all the sick or premature babies in the NICU. The NICU could be a scary place for new mothers and fathers. As you enter the NICU, you will see babies connected to tubes, wires and machines. This could be very overwhelming and scary. Machines will constantly beep and alarms will go off. These are normal things to hear when you're in the NICU..
