    Born on January 8, 1942 in Oxford, England, Stephen Hawking was born - as some say - into a family of intellects. Stephens' father, Frank Hawking, studied at Oxford University as a medical researcher, while his mother, Isobel Hawking, was one of the first women to attend the university in the 1930s ( a period when few women considered university). The two raised four children together, with Stephen being the eldest. Although Stephens' father reportedly urged his older children to study medicine in college, it was evident from an early age that Stephen and his siblings had their sights set on the stars. During his early years of school, Stephen was seen to be brilliant, but he was considered to be a poor student. He was more interested in games and fun, creating games and things – being out and about and playing. It was around age 17 that Stephen went to Oxford University, where he refused his father's wish to study medicine and considered majoring in mathematics. Considering that Oxford did not offer Hawking a mathematics degree, he switched to physics and cosmology.....
