The Kite Runner Guilt can do many things to a person; hurt them, make them become a better person, or a person simply feels no remorse for what they have done. Many things can make a person feel guilty, they might lie to someone, steal something, commit a sin, and much more; Everyone experiences guilt at some point in their life. In the novel, guilt is depicted throughout the main character's journey toward redemption. “It was a long time ago, but what people say about the past, I have learned, and how we can bury it is false. Because the past comes out. Looking back, I realize that I have been looking down this deserted alley for twenty-six years. In The Kite Runner, a key theme was present: your past will always haunt you unless you redeem yourself. Amir will always remember Hassan, his father's death and the extreme of his lies, but in the film version, the element that was missing was Amir's thoughts, to help the viewer better understand his pain and his guilt; Right now, many people are going through life-changing events that can torment them for the rest of their lives. Some people manage to free themselves from the chains of guilt by redeeming themselves and live a happy life, like Amir. Guilt can impact a person's life and future choices. Although Amir and his beloved wife Soraya have what seems to be a perfect life, there are many things lacking in their relationship. Amir is afraid to tell Soraya about his past, so he never told her; this causes him to begin his marriage with guilt and distrust, affecting his relationship with her. At the start of their relationship, Soraya told him everything about her past...... middle of paper ...... an important exchange was left out of the film, that changes things. Amir learning more about his mother and how amazing and wonderful she was, it helped him become a better person, it helped him move forward in his life; and it helped him understand that it wasn't his fault that his mother died, which took away his guilt. In The Kite Runner, a present theme is that your past will always haunt you; to redeem yourself and move forward, you have to go back to the past and make things better. Nowadays, if a person is accused of something, they have to go to court and plead guilty or not guilty; most people plead not guilty. Even though people don't like to admit it, they feel deeply guilty, which forces them to take drastic action. Until the truth comes out and they redeem themselves, their past will always haunt them.
