  • Essay / The Story of Artemis - 705

Artemis: Goddess of Light and Protector of the VulnerableArtemis is the Greek goddess of the hunt, wild animals, wilderness, female fertility and the moon. Of all the Olympian goddesses, Artemis is the only one to have a real mother. She is the daughter of Zeus, the ruler of all the Greek gods, and Leto, a Titaness. Zeus had an affair with Leto and secretly got her pregnant. Leto was forced to give birth to the babies while being chased by a python sent by Hera, the wife of Zeus. Luckily for Leto, his first child, Artemis, was born without any pain, but unfortunately for her, she had twins and her labor continued. As weak as baby Artemis was, she quickly took on the role of midwife and helped her mother give birth to her brother Apollo. (The God and Goddess | The Story of Artemis.) Artemis was a friendly goddess at times, but she could also be cold if you offended her in any way. “She considered men inferior to animals.” Ironically, Artemis was born a hunter but she was also very in touch with nature. She was the protector of forests and animals. As friendly as she is, if someone chased her or tried to make her appear in their territory, she would definitely punish them in some way. It would paralyze them or transform them into a strange animal. “Artemis once sent a boar after a man who said he was a better hunter than she. He never said anything like that again. ("What is the personality of the Greek goddess Artemis?") For Artemis' third birthday, she asked her father Zeus for six wishes. His wishes were: to be able to live his life forever virgin, to never have to marry, for a bow and arrows like those of his brother Apollo, hunting dogs to help him hunt, all the mountains..... . middle of paper. .....an elevator. Artemis had the ability to shoot her bow and arrows with precise and perfect aim. She was very intelligent. She had the ability to transform people into any animal she wanted. She could also kill mortals instantly. She could protect any woman during childbirth just by looking at her. Artemis could have the appearance of any age, which was often used as a disguise and helped him hear if someone said things he might regret. Much like her twin brother Apollo, she had the ability to heal the wounds of any living person, but as she hated all men except Apollo, this power was not often used. She also had the power to cast spells and cause plagues whenever she wanted. Some gods and goddesses are not allowed to cross dimensions and enter Mount Olympus, but Artemis is one of those allowed.
