Essay / Breaking the Ice - 898
We gathered supplies and ammo from the attic and headed to the truck. Amber insisted she drive, Eve went to the backseat and I grabbed a shotgun. We walked a few miles without anyone saying a word, still thinking about what happened recently. We came to an intersection with a sign pointing east. Richard and Phillips Gas and Snack 3.4 miles ahead. We started heading east on a dusty, desolate road lined with ditches between two cornfields. I surveyed our surroundings and began to consider the wisdom of driving on an open road after dark. “We should probably camp at the gas station coming up.” I said trying to break the ice. Amber looks in the rearview mirror and notices Eve reading a magazine that was surprisingly in readable condition. “What do you have there Eve?” Amber asks. "672 ways to look pretty for spring, flat abs and a beautiful butt, how I lost weight quickly." Eve looked up momentarily. “It must be nice to only care about your appearance.” I looked up and laughed. "Well, when there aren't zombies trying to eat, society can afford to worry about superficial things." "Shallow? Oh, like how you helped me out at Syracuse because you thought I was hot?" “Uh?!” Amber turned back to Eve who had a smirk on her face. "Yeah, for the most part what Leo said is correct except for Leo Zombie Apocalypse or not he still cares about his physical appearance even though his clothes are dirty and he hasn't bathed since I I don't know how long ago." Clearly foiled by Amber's response I decided to turn on the radio which was only broadcasting static. Determined to cut the conversation short, I turned on the CD player, hoping the car it was in still had a CD in it. I pushed the game in Rob Zombie Dragula started playing. Normally any music... middle of paper... Look, guys, I know Isamu asked you all to take me back to Zion, but you don't have to do that, like I said, I can handle it on my own. “You froze twice at the warehouse, you can stop being such a badass.” “Hey, fuck you, if it wasn’t Amber your ass would be dead!” “Damn little brat !” “Hey, stop that now!” We have to work together if any of us want to get to Zion alive! Now look, we all have our strengths and flaws, let's not criticize each other, okay? "Amber said "Oh and what faults do I have, Ms. Counselor Amber?!" "Well, for starters, you're really reckless. " "Whatever" "Listen guys. we have to be focused because we have to go through Philadelphia to get to Baltimore and the big city is no walk in the park. “I looked at Amber, then I looked at Eve, with her head in her knees again.” we won't have many problems when we get to Philadelphia."
