  • Essay / The Theory of Evolution - 1340

Ongoing scientific research into exactly how evolution occurred and continues to occur has been a controversial idea within society since Darwin first discovered it. first formulated more than a century ago. The scientific basis of evolution accounts for events that are also central concerns of religion; both religion and science focus on the origins of humans and biological diversity. For example, in the reading “Truth cannot contradict truth,” Pope John Paul II, speaking to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, addressed the question of God as the creator of man. The Pope explains that men cannot identify with animals because they are superior. The reason is that God created humans in his image. What the Church says about humanity contradicts the scientific evidence scientists have found about human evolution. By analyzing the different scientific approaches, we will be able to clearly understand that the theory of evolution by natural selection conflicts with the Judeo-Christian vision of the creator God. Before Darwin, the complexity of organisms was recognized as a creation of God. The Judeo-Christian basis holds that to recognize the existence of a creator and that the Bible is true requires much deeper substance than the simple assertion of a theory. In the Bible it says that God created a perfect world, but because man has sinned, the world is a continuing state that will ultimately lead to complete destruction. This is the opposite of the teachings of evolution that the world began with the Big Bang, and rather than being in a state of decline as Judeo-Christians believe, the world is gradually improving. Evolution makes the characteristics of organisms justifiable by scientifically studied processes...... middle of article...... and also accepts scientific findings proving evolution. Unfortunately, whether or not the theory of evolution by natural selection conflicts with the Judeo-Christian worldview of God as creator will remain an ongoing debate. There will always be a contradiction between the evidence scientists have about human evolution and what the Church says about the creation of humanity. Works Cited Futuyma, D. (2000-2014).
