Schlosser, Sharon Shavitt and Alaina Kanfer, who are experts in the fields of marketing and e-commerce, advertising and information technology respectively, have found that 63% of respondents disliked or felt neutral about online advertising. (Schlosser) This explains why a large majority of Internet users generally do not like online advertisements. There are several valid reasons for this. One of these reasons is that users view advertisements as annoying or intrusive in their Internet use. They believe that advertisements distract from the overall content of the web page. According to a study conducted by Scot McCoy, an expert in the field of management information systems, Internet users are much less likely to return to a website containing advertisements than a similar site without advertisements. (McCoy) In other words, if a user is able to find a similar site that does not include ads, they are much more likely to use and visit that site than one that does include ads. However, one of the drawbacks of these studies is that they are outdated.
