Climate ChangeTopics:1) What is climate change?2) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change3) Causes of climate change4) Effects of climate change ?5) International Expert Panels on Climate Change6) What can be done at home?1) What is climate change?Climate change is the significant change in climate and pattern distribution weather conditions on Earth ranging from the last decade to millennia earlier. 2) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Currently chaired by Mr. Rajendra Pachauri, this organization was established in 1988 by two United Nations organizations, the World Meteorology and the United Nations Environment Program. The IPCC reports on the scientific, technical and socio-economic information needed to understand the risks and impacts of climate change while developing ways to counter this global phenomenon. It analyzes and researches data relating to: • Climate change caused by human activities • The effects of climate change caused by human activities • Adaptation and mitigation options The IPCC consists of different bodies such as: 1. IPCC Panel-This is the body in charge of the procedure, work program and structure of the IPCC.2. Chairman- This is the body that oversees the panel3. Bureau - It consists of two sections - A) The working groups B) The working group Working groups - These groups evaluate the scientific aspects of climate change, the vulnerability of socio-economic and natural systems to climate change, the consequences and adaptation options and also analyze options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Task Force - Maintains National Greenhouse Gas Inventories3) Caused...... middle of paper ......d Earth's orbit over the past thirty years. Scientists and researchers agree that human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels are the primary cause and driving force of climate change. 4) Ocean Circulation – Ocean currents have the potential to affect Earth's climate conditions. This is because they have the ability to transport a large amount of heat. Winds blowing on colder currents become cold and the areas they blow over have their temperature reduced. Likewise, if winds blow over warmer currents, they capture heat and the areas over which the wind blows see their temperature increase. If winds blow on evaporative currents, they pick up moisture and bring rain to the areas they blow over. 5) Volcanic Eruptions – The effects of a volcanic eruption affect the climate for a long time, even if the volcanic activity itself lasts only a few moments. hours.
