Essay / The Celebritiy Sam Patch - 705
During this period in reference to the Sam patch and the 1800-1837; the industrial revolution is underway. Large factories are produced in major coastal cities. Production of new and old products is increasing, as is demand. People work day in and day out in factories, just living another day, but ultimately hoping to be able to afford the products they create themselves. However, that being said, obviously those who own these growing and elusive companies were making very easily accessible money and power. This creates the three social classes we live in today: upper class, middle class, and poverty. So, this begins to bring us into a modern, common America; where the reactions of the American people are to somehow find common ground among themselves and give power to celebrities and support someone with a similar lifestyle and beliefs to help to give this group of citizens a voice and the possibility of possibly changing in order to change something; this has also been used in reverse when a powerful person seeking more support would become familiar with and become a celebrity with a specific group. Patch jumped from the heights next to the waterfalls. Journalists wrote about him, crowds came to see him, boys imagined themselves to be him, and… he was a factory boy turned celebrity. » (1) In the life and times of Sam Patch as well as other figures of that era, all represent America in various forms...... middle of paper ...... approximate popular sovereignty and majority rule. With Andrew Jackson, he came from a humble background and could understand the minority and gain their support just as much as the majority in terms of economics and what he could do for both classes. Even over time, gaining the support of a common majority and/or minority to express that group's opinion has endured across America, in such cases the rights of the woman, Fredrick Douglass and his fight against slavery, Martin Luther King and the fight against racism. , and now our celebrities are talking about and being idolized for and by the people they were in, like Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar. Those who seek power connect in the best way possible with those who give them just that and those who seek a voice give those with a broader, common understanding a chance to speak on their behalf in hopes of being heard..
