Charlotte Bronte writes in the famous novel Jane Eyre: “I am not a bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.” As the writer shows, the desire for freedom is rooted in the woman and she fights for her independence according to her situation. But most Asian culture is upholding and portraying women in frames that are concerned, beautiful, caring, weak, and underestimated. Women are expected to play a conservative role in the community. Above all, they considered him the "honor" of the family, responsible for preserving the family's prestige. While it is true that women are beautiful, well-groomed and caring, it is not necessarily obligatory to determine this characteristic that uniquely defines women. To deteriorate the subordination of women to men, a gang of women rose up against violence where the whole world was stunned and surprised. They were a diaspora of the Sri Lankan Tamil nation called the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), made up of female fighters who wanted to overcome social and cultural norms. They have proven to the nation as well as the entire world that they, as women, are no longer inferior to men. The involvement of Tamil female LTTE fighters in the secession battle challenged Sri Lanka's patriarchal social structure. LTTE fighters changed the conservative appearance of Sri Lankan women to reflect gender equality within society. Generally, a Sri Lankan Tamil woman is expected to stay at home, quiet, conservative and must admit all her life in the family. Especially being conservative means wearing one's traditional dress (Sari), having Bindi, a decoration worn by women and jewelry to reflect one's cultural identity. But this review failed to differentiate between women's equality in the struggle and emancipation. So this article is not very used for my argument but it helps to know the context of the battle..
