  • Essay / A Look at Plagiarism and Ethics - 782

Plagiarism and EthicsWhat is plagiarism?Plagiarism is taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as yours. For example, when you copy and paste other articles, quotes, works that you found on the Internet for your homework, projects, anything that is plagiarism since you did not put your own words or work in writing. This also doesn't mean that you can just copy and paste and make changes to it to make it look different or your own, because you're technically still plagiarizing. The information/research you get from the websites you read is supposed to help you by giving you your own ideas so that you can write your own articles, essays, etc. So now you should know that it is also illegal to plagiarize. and that has its consequences. What do you consider cheating?Cheating is also a form of plagiarism for me. It is taking advantage of someone else's work and using it unfairly for one's own benefit. For example, you can cheat by copying others in school/class for homework, tests, essays and anything handed in for a grade without you doing the work that was written is considered cheating. cheating because you get a grade on something. you have not worked or made any effort. You didn't work for the grade so you don't deserve it, so you cheated and in the end you don't really get anything out of it because you didn't learn from the duty assigned to you. What are the consequences? at Butler High School for cheating? The consequences at Butler High School for cheating would be suspension and if done multiple times it could even be expulsion. Suspension days may vary depending on the severity of your cheating or plagiarism. If you did it on import...... middle of paper ......lazy person for those who know you and "your" work which is not really yours. This will also go into your school records which will stay there forever and colleges will be able to see this and will probably not want to accept you into their schools. If you can't get accepted into a college, how can you get a good career/profession? That little plagiarism you committed in high school could affect you and your life for a long time. You wouldn't have thought that simple copying and pasting would affect you this much, but in reality it does, simply because it's unethical. Unethical actions always have consequences. Then there are also legal effects/consequences that you will have to face, since plagiarism is not legal, you might get into a lot of trouble and charges for fraud or copyright infringement.
