    A similar definition given by Smith is that it is “a process of accompanying learners, caring for them and about them, and bring learning to life” (2). Through Smith's reading and Rodrigues' lecture, the audience gained knowledge of the early Greek educational system in which students, primarily boys, were assigned a pedagogue. This pedagogue was a slave who taught the ways of being a man outside the confines of the classroom and taught more life lessons. Although our education system is different in today's times, we can also associate this term with people outside the classroom; to the people on the bus who teach us manners or an old friend who teaches us appreciation. The lesson is that we always learn from others. So I think Rodrigues' definition is a perfect fit for strangers, friends and family who we can then consider pedagogues if they meet the criteria of respect, understanding and listening.
