This theory is based on the negative aspects associated with society. They believe that there is constant conflict and competition for power in societies. They emphasize, as Henslin (2015) puts it, that “society is made up of groups that compete for scarce resources” (p. 17). They believe that by relying on conflict, society can continue to function. From the outside it seems to work perfectly and smoothly, but if you look a little deeper you can see all the conflicts that go on in society to make it work. People are constantly trying to balance conflict and deciding who is in power. There is also a fight for first place.
