Genetically Modified Foods: Harmful to NatureThe process of Genetically Modified (GM) Foods is the way of the future, promised to help end world hunger. Genetically modified foods will create healthier, drought-tolerant crops that don't require any chemicals sprayed, but that's not the case. Genetically modified foods are dangerous because of the many organisms present in the food that can affect the body, which has not yet been identified. It is estimated that 2/3 of US supermarkets may contain genetically modified foods or genetically modified ingredients. Genetically modified foods can cause allergies, destroy ecosystems and are dangerous to eat. They should therefore not be allowed to distribute them in our supermarkets. Genetically modified foods are a health hazard and will not improve anything except create more global problems. Genetically modified foods should not be confused with hybrid crops. Hybrid crops are plants that breed with other plants, producing better offspring for consumer consumption. Genetically modified foods are plants whose DNA has been altered or mixed with another gene or chemical, producing an entirely new strand of DNA. It is believed that mixing DNA and genes in genetically modified foods will create a more nutritious and sustainable fruit or plant for the consumer. Producing new DNA strands can be deadly, as it can produce wild results that might not be able to be controlled. What is unknown is that because the consequences can be fatal for the consumer, it is not known how the human body may react to adulterated food. As noted previously, genetically modified foods have probably already been consumed at least once by the population. Once again, two-thirds of Americans offer genetically modified foods in their supermarkets. With a high percentage, people wonder what the long-term effects on food consumption might be. The most spoiled crop is soybeans, the second most spoiled crop is corn. Soy is an ingredient used in almost everything we eat or consume. It is found in milk, candy, cookies, bread, ice cream and even baby food. This means that genetically modified foods can be present in everything we eat and we won't even know it, nor does it make the food smell or taste... middle of paper .... .. for the balance of the ecosystem, and if a species is unable to survive, the food chain will collapse. Since genetically modified ingredients are not listed on nutrition labels, any excess iron or vitamin A will be unknown to the consumer. The consumer will not be aware of the danger he may run if he has a weak metabolism. A consumer may look at a label and think everything is perfectly fine, but they are unaware of the presence of additional iron in the product made from genetically modified soy. Too much iron in a body can cause neurological damage to the brain. Other similar incidents can occur if the consumer's body is weak and cannot consume or respond properly to an overdose of a certain nutrient. Until genetically modified foods are safe for consumption by any organism, they should not be produced or sold to the consumer. Consumers are not aware of the foods they buy if they are labeled and are not aware of the risks to their.
