  • Essay / Four Functions of Management - 788

Any organization, whether new or old, whether small or large, must function smoothly and achieve the goals and objectives it has set for itself. There are basically four management concepts that enable any organization to manage tactical, planned and defined decisions. The four basic functions of management are simply having a controlled plan on preventative action. The purpose of this article is to discuss the four functions of management: planning, organizing, directing, controlling and how each of these functions relates to my current organization. Planning is the process that management uses to achieve a company's goals. The most common goal is to make money and planning defines how to achieve this. Examples could be the type of business, or whether to expand into other products or focus on a smaller area, to grow through acquisitions or not to expand, to help employees pursue their goals career, be socially or environmentally aware, have multiple locations or not. As a leader in my organization, I have used planning in many ways. A particularly noteworthy aspect concerns employee performance. Organization is the process of deciding on the internal structure. Plans would include how to distribute work among managers by function; how to coordinate between departments; how to control each division of labor and what types of people are needed at each level. Staffing is an important element, including recruiting, hiring and training the people whose positions have been defined in the organizational structure. This requires decisions regarding prior experience, compensation, benefits, evaluation and delegation. Once a year our organization gets very busy as we try to supplement our department budgets. For this particular year, I need to purchase very expensive equipment that will help employees perform better; which is also an asset for the organization as a whole. Safes will increase our profit module after a while. By organizing myself, I prepare the resources to accomplish such a task because I am an important part of this business and I would like everyone to benefit from it..
