Essay / A Study of Ancient and Modern Architecture - 1501
Behind every architectural work is an architect, whether a man or a woman, a small group or a entire people. The structure created by one of these architects conveys a message about the architect: his culture, his identity, his struggles. Through the human element that architects bring to their work, not only is a building constructed, but a work of art, a symbol of a people, a representation, is also created. “The history of the world's great architecture is the astonishing story of how individuals and groups took this fundamental necessity to build and transformed it into perhaps the greatest manifestation of the human spirit – deeper, more enduring, more inexhaustible than any other art, a vital and truly wonderful expression of the experience of humanity, in all areas. part of the world (Nuttgens 9). » As Nuttgens eloquently expressed it, architecture is a “vital expression…of the experience of humanity.” These are not just buildings used for storage, habitation, religious purposes or simple functionality; it is a great manifestation of the common character of man, the great binding factor of humanity. However, it can be argued that ancient and classical forms or architecture are inherently more "profound... enduring... [and] inexhaustible" than those of their modern counterparts, due to some key differences in the way ancient architecture and modern is practiced. Ancient architecture: the beginning of a great art form; the source of simple techniques; the harbinger of all architectural works; a magnificent, incredible and almost unimaginable era of artistic architectural wealth; from the very first construction of man until the beginning of the 20th century (what is considered to be)...... middle of paper ......ructures, continuing to revolutionize the field and art of architecture, always keeping it - a changing art form that makes it so distinctive among other creations of humanity.
