  • Essay / Health Outcomes - 1556

Introduction: Health outcomes refer to changes in the health status of individuals or the population. Outcomes are attributed to multiple or planned interventions, whether or not the intention of the intervention is to change health status. These interventions include health services and programs, including health promotion programs, government policies, laws and regulations, and resulting programs. Intervention may also include unexpected or expected health outcomes of government policies in areas other than health. Health outcomes are assessed by health indicators (World Health Organization, 1998). Health indicators are a single, quantitatively represented measure that encompasses an important aspect of health, such as the number of people suffering from a chronic disease. It also takes into account various determinants of health, such as income, or important aspects of the health system, such as the proportion of patients who return to hospital for additional care after previous treatment (World Health Organization health, 1998). These indicators can be used to describe a public health problem at a specific time. It can indicate periodic changes over time in population or individual health, describe differences in population health, and examine the extent to which program goals are being met. These indicators may potentially encompass measures of disease or condition that are commonly used to measure health outcomes, such as health expectancy, life skills and quality of life, as well as behaviors or actions taken by individuals regarding health (Rigby and Kohler, 2002).Child health outcomes tend to be influenced by parents, family environment, intact families, maternal and non-maternal aspects. .... middle of article ......t.
