Essay / Christianity: what is temptation? - 1019
Temptations are one of life's most captivating trials or seductions that we face daily. Additionally, it causes us to crave something we don't necessarily need or it causes us to sin. Furthermore, if we give in to temptation, we may be happy, but it will only be fleeting. It is because of “the fall of man” that sin is second nature to us, which in turn makes it easy for us to give in to temptation. In other words, as the verbal expression goes, “we were born in sin and we live in it.” As a result, our temptations can either win us or break us. The Bible says in Romans 7:19, “I do not do the good that I want, but the evil that I do not want I do” (King James Version). Strictly speaking, even if we aspire to do good, because of our sinful nature, it becomes a struggle. However, it is for this reason, our evil nature, that God sent his son from heaven to give us hope. My definition of hope is “a positive anticipation of God’s promise.” It is this hope that gives us a reason to live, a reason to move forward and the vigor to overcome these temptations. Moreover, it is His death, burial, and resurrection that give us hope of His saving grace. However, despite the fact that hope is inexhaustible, temptation is inevitable, which is why the Gospel according to Matthew 26:41 states: “Watch and pray, that you may not fall into temptation: the spirit is good willing, but the flesh is weak (King James Version). What is temptation?Temptation is a strong compulsion or desire to do something. It is a form of incitement, most often leading to unscrupulous or nefarious behavior. According to ("Bible Teachings about Man", nd, para 1), temptation is defined as "a state felt when a person has thoughts, considers...... middle of paper..... .ess. The hope of a better life and eternal happiness gives us the reason to continue. However, despite the fact that hope is inexhaustible, temptation is inevitable, which is why the Gospel according to Matthew 26:41 states: “Watch and pray, that you may not fall into temptation: the spirit is good willing, but the flesh is weak (King James Version).
