Women in general have faced many difficulties in the past and especially during the Black Arts Movement. Women were devalued and occupied the lowest ranks of society. They had some of the toughest jobs and worked very hard to provide for their children. Throughout this essay, three sources support and show what women experienced during the Black Arts Movement. These sources are “The Black Woman in American Literature,” “Woman Poem,” and “Wine in the Wilderness.” All of these sources add vital information to support thoughts on how women were treated during the Black Arts Movement and what they faced on a daily basis. Overall, during the Black Arts Movement, women were involved in many artistic activities to display their sexual characteristics. Women faced many problems, such as lack of respect and not being given equal opportunities. Finally, the black arts movement really brought out how women were treated and showed the terrible things that artists were doing to them in society, which caused even more problems in their lives.
