Essay / Zeros of Quadratic Functions Portfolio - 765
In this portfolio, I learned how to determine the zeros of a function using various algebraic methods and how to solve them graphically and by solving quadratic equations in the complex number system. With these skills and concepts, I was able to apply them to real-world situations. This portfolio shows the different methods for determining the zeros of a quadratic function. I had learned the four different methods: solving by factoring, square root, completing the square and using the quadratic formula. If an equation is factorable, all four methods can be used to determine zeros. If an equation is not factorable, the only method I can use is the quadratic formula. To identify the quantity of real solutions, I applied the nature of the roots of a quadratic function, also called discriminant. To find the discriminant, the formula b2-4ac will determine the number of real solutions. If the discriminant is greater than 0, there are 2 real solutions. If it's less than 0, there are no real solutions. Finally, if the discriminant is equal to 0, there exists 1 true solution. The vertex of a quadratic function is the lowest or highest point of a parabola. The x coordinate can be found using -b/2a and then used to find the other variable in the original equation. I also learned that the axis of symmetry is the x-value of the vertex or the midpoint of the two x-intercepts. I also revisited similar word problems where I have to figure out the variables, create a function, solve for the vertex using -b/2a, and use that to solve for the other variable. However, there are specific problems that require me to find the break-even point or the x-intercepts in which I apply one of the methods to determine the zeros. Also I learned that break even point is applied middle of paper......in this portfolio I could improve by not procrastinating when it comes to finishing thoughts, captions and homework. By managing my time more wisely, I can be more efficient and have more time to revise or complete other work. This can promote my learning because these bad habits occur in my daily life. Unless I correct this bad habit, I will continue to have poor time management throughout my life. Additionally, during my homework and class assignments, I could write more neatly and show all my steps. So when I review all my work, I understand how I got my answer and the steps I took to get that solution. I think I need to be more careful during lessons because it affects my understanding of the lesson and the concept or I end up writing things that don't make sense. Additionally, I must continue to perform well on my quizzes and skills tests to maintain or improve my grade..
