Essay / James Robert "Radio" Kennedy - 789
There are many miraculous people on this planet. Some of these people have had miraculous experiences, others have achieved miraculous success, and some people remind us how miraculous our lives are. Every once in a while, someone comes along and shows us that miracles are actually possible. That's why a mentally disabled African-American boy from Anderson, South Carolina, was put on Earth. The word “miraculous” pretty much describes the entire life of James Robert “Radio” Kennedy. In 1947, he was born into a small family in South Carolina and suffered from a severe hereditary mental disability. James' late father Robert Kennedy and his younger brother, George Allan "Cool Rock" Kennedy, suffered from the same problem. Radio could not read, write or speak, making it impossible to play and learn like other children. When James was young, he pushed a shopping cart around Anderson, North Carolina, and listened to a small radio. The town accepted James, but didn't spend much time trying to get to know him. Even though James had a fairly calm life, he was in for a real roller coaster ride. This journey began when he met a man in the fall of 1964. Coach Harold Jones was an assistant varsity football coach at TL Hanna High School in Anderson, North Carolina. One day he saw a young man imitating the signals he gave to the boys on the field and he invited him to his house offering him soda and candy. This boy's name was James, and at the time he couldn't read, write, or speak. It became obvious to Coach Jones that James was mentally disabled and he invited him to more football practices. When the football team saw how obsessed James was with his little radio, they gave him the nickname that he would end up...... middle of paper... alive today. Every living person has the capacity to love. . This is the gift given to us to make this world a better place. Unfortunately, many people do not use this love to its full potential, resulting in the suffering of those in less fortunate situations. But that's not the kind of person Radio is. Love has always been the most important part of Radio's roller coaster of life, and although he will never reach the mental capabilities of an average person, his capacity to love will always remain much higher.
