Lives are slowly being lost to suicide and it affects not only themselves but also the people around them. Suicide is defined as taking one's own life and is an issue to which full attention must be given. Teen suicide has been discussed all over the media and it continues to have a detrimental effect on today's generation. In the United States, the eighth leading cause of death is suicide; Among developing adolescents, suicide is the third leading cause of death (NAMI). There are many signs that a person is considering suicide. And there are many reasons why someone is driven to suicide. These reasons are if the teen is suffering from depression, bullying, sexual abuse, and paraphernalia abuse. We could prevent such situations from happening as often as they do now if we were more tolerant of everyone. Drug and alcohol abuse, stress, and reckless behavior are also common warning signs; another warning sign is if the person has thought about or attempted suicide. Just because a person attempts suicide once does not mean they will try again. The symptoms of suicide can be easily detected; suicide can therefore be avoided. Recognizing the warning signs is the easiest way to prevent someone from committing suicide. Antidepressants, support groups, and therapy are helpful solutions to prevent people from committing suicide. It is wildly inaccurate to believe that once a person contemplates suicide, there is no way to stop them from taking their own life.
