  • Essay / Fall Choir Concert Appreciation - 521

    On November 16, 2013, I attended a choir concert, a fall choir concert. This event took place on the Wheaton College campus in Edman Chapel at 7:30 p.m. The chapel was well lit, with long benches for the audience to sit on. The concert began with the audience looking toward a balcony, where the ensemble stood in neat rows. They looked at the conductor who was standing on stage in front of the audience, waiting for their signal. The first composition, "Miserere Mei, Deus", was composed by Gregorio Allegri in 1638. I learned this by reading with the well thought out program that was given. As we, the audience, admired the singers, we were mesmerized by the all-consuming sound. The room was filled with vibrant melody, in which the harmonization and tone color were spectacular. The emotion conveyed throughout the room was one of absorption and pleasure. During this piece, the sopranos hit such high notes that I was stunned.
