Since China's opening up in the late 1970s, the economy has grown rapidly and more and more people have been able to choose to go abroad. America, as a global economic and educational center, was favored by China. One of my uncles and aunts came to America in the 1990s for higher education and they stay in Oregon to this day. One of the main reasons they went abroad was because America had better education and work opportunities. They studied materials science and engineering, although China was far from lagging behind in these fields at that time. Plus, with a more relaxed immigration policy, they could stay here and easily find great work. My cousin, who is their son, was born in China and came here with them since he was one year old. He is the first to grow up in both cultures in my family. He knows China and America well, but his thoughts and actions are more American. I have another uncle and aunt who immigrated to America and Canada for the same reason. My family members are brave to innovate, they took a lot of risks for their future and they can finally stay here and have a better life.
