  • Essay / Think Outside the Box - 761

Pieces of glass shattered like raindrops on the walls, as I smashed all of my boyfriend's belongings. The photos of our love story were torn to shreds, as tears streamed down my cheeks. His clothes were stolen, they were meant for me to look at, not some cheap thing he found while he was wandering around. The room, once immaculate and so appointed, was now rubble lying on the floor, just like our relationship. I couldn't help but feel sick because of what I did, I acted on impulse, I didn't think, I destroyed my lover's house. If I had taken the time to solve my problem with different options, the outcome could have been more positive. It's important to learn how to solve problems in a positive way, and critical thinking courses teach you how to do this. If everyone were to take classes, everyone's positive choices could have a positive impact on society. This is why I think we should pass a law requiring everyone to take a class every two months. People educated in critical thinking are often more likely to become more involved in community events such as charity events, town meetings, and voting. Critical thinkers are more likely to discuss controversial topics such as politics and public policy, making them more engaged citizens (Critical Thinking Explained). Isn’t that the type of society we want to live in, one where people care enough to get involved? Most people want to get involved, but how can they if they are not informed about what is happening around them. More importantly, how can people be informed if they don't care to know what's around them? Critical thinking encourages people to think about topics from other perspectives, it helps them learn and helps them care about issues that are outside the box, and it creates knowledge. If people are aware of the issues around them, they are more likely to care about and show compassion to each other, which can only lead to a stronger society. Although the courses take time and effort, they will improve people's overall decision-making, leading to a less stressful and more positive life. We should all start thinking critically now; we need to be open to the idea of making it a law to take classes to make our lives healthier and our world a better place.
