  • Essay / Communication in Organizations - 1846

List and describe the four (4) types of organizational communications. Be sure to discuss each one in depth. When dealing with communication in an organization, it is important to choose the type that best fits the overall benefits of the organization. The four types of organizational communications discussed in the book are downward communication, upward communication, horizontal communication, and the most well-known communication transmission system is the Grapevine. The first type of organizational communication described in the book is downward communication. Downward communication is defined as the communication used by management to send orders, directives, goals, policies, etc. to employees at lower levels of the organization. Five types of commination within an organization can be identified as follows: 1) professional instruction. It is a communication relating to the performance of a certain task, 2) a work rationale which is a communication relating a certain task to organizational tasks, 3) procedures and practices which are a communication on the organization's policies, procedures, rules and regulations, 4) feedback, which is described as a communication assessment of how well an individual performs assigned tasks, and 5) indoctrination that is described as communication designed to motivate employees (Swanson, 2012, p. 439). This type of communication allows the communicator to state specific objectives, avoid misunderstandings as well as communication errors due to a lack of details or information, prepare receivers for upcoming changes, and help shape employee opinions. Based on research conducted and described in the book, top-down communication tends to be in the middle of paper......dership (Swanson, 2012, p. 414). These are all key elements to a successful candidate, whether for a new hire or a promotion. These are also elements that could not be detected by a written exam alone. Another advantage of assessment centers is that they are a good source for the candidate to find out their strengths and weaknesses, they are more legitimate because the candidate is evaluated by several experts, candidates can improve their performance and they can increase their strengths and remove weaknesses (Akrani, 2011).Work CitedAkrani, G.
