    The house I was tasked with renovating has a large family; there were about 20 people. But not all of these people live in this house, it was their grandmother's house and their family came to visit us. We visited their home for three days to build completely new cement floors for their bedrooms and kitchen. There was a guy named Emerson, about the same age as me, 21. I wanted to talk to him and get to know him better as a friend. Despite the fact that I didn't speak Spanish, I was able to at least have a meaningful and interesting conversation with the help of translators and my friends. We grew closer every day, but not too close to know each other in depth. So on our last day in this house to finish what we started, every other person was here except Emerson. I asked his mother where he was, because I was planning to give him a small gift. His mother responded saying he was at work, and I understood he was working like a part time job or any other job to earn money. But when it was time to say goodbye, his mother told me through tears that Emerson really wanted to be here with all of us, but he had to go up to the mountains with his father to harvest beans to feed the family . His words shocked me so much, because I realized that how
