    The Battle of Kokoda took place in Papua New Guinea in 1942. The Battle of Kokoda was fought through dangerous rainforests, harsh weather conditions, steep mountainous lands and with a lack of food, water and basic survival supplies. . The Australians ultimately won that battle, but it didn't always seem that way. Until the Japanese began to retreat after running out of supplies, the Australians were simply struggling to stay alive. The Australians were outnumbered and struggling greatly at the start of this battle. The Australians had a huge disadvantage against the Japanese in the fact that the 14th Battalion sent to Papua New Guinea was a battalion of very young men who had never experienced war. or battles before, they had the training but most of them were still only around seventeen years old and were not ready for the brutal battle that awaited them. These men were told they were not going to fight when they started to travel to Port Moresby, they were told it would be a fun trip and they should bring tennis rackets and games....
