  • Essay / Nuclear Power Plant Essay - 1918

In March 2011, in Fukushima, Japan, the country was hit by an 8.9 magnitude earthquake followed by a devastating tsunami. Many lives were lost that day and buildings collapsed everywhere. It was a painful sight to see, and for the Japanese people it was a sad and worrying time. The Japanese people were not afraid of the earthquake and tsunami because they learned from a young age to deal with these disasters, as it was a normal event for a country located on the "Belt of Fire”, a vast active volcanic and tectonic zone which surrounds the north and the south. America, Asia and the island arcs of Southeast Asia (“Ring of Fire”). It was the government news that worried them. News of the Fukushima Daiichi plant was hit by the earthquake and the tsunami caused waste to spread throughout the sea. For some Japanese, it was history again. After this incident, the Japanese people demanded the government to shut down all nuclear reactors in the country and the government accepted the people's voice and all 48 reactors were taken out of service (Gatehouse). However, this incident has another effect that could have detrimental consequences for nuclear science. Should we still use nuclear power plants to produce energy for our world? There are many points of view on this topic, however, with the evidence I have collected and the reaction of other countries, nuclear power plants do more harm than benefit to the human population. Compared to other sciences, nuclear science is still generally young and new. , in fact, scientists only began to look at nuclear physics during World War II (“Atomic Physics”). Nuclear energy can come from two sources, nuclear fission, which is the splitting of atoms, and nuclear fusion, which is the uni...... middle of paper ...... dropped the first atomic bomb on humans and destroyed their lives. before the first nuclear power plant, released 15 years later to provide electrical energy to the public. Although it was redeemed by the efficiency of the nuclear power plant, nuclear science was once again criticized when in 1986, in Chernobyl, Ukraine, an explosion occurred in the nuclear power plant, which constitutes one of the most devastating accidents ever to occur in the history of humanity. There were not many accidents after Chernobyl, but the damage it caused still has consequences in this territory which is currently still inhospitable. No one in this world can deny that modern nuclear physics is an achievement that shows how capable humans can be, but with the risk and danger it carries, it is better to leave nuclear science alone and continue to discover other avenues for safety. human beings.
