The main difference is that the main goal of the juvenile justice system is to help young people. Everyone in the system wants to help miners. They want to rehabilitate them, so they can continue to live normal, crime-free lives. Adult court systems engage in justice. They want punishment. The juvenile justice system is based on civil law and not criminal law. This shows that they are seeking rehabilitation and not punishment. (Fradella and Neubauer, 2011, p. 500). The juvenile justice system is also private. The adult court system allows people to sit in hearings, but juvenile court hearings are closed to the public and names are not released. The jurisdictions of the two judicial systems are also different. The jurisdiction of the adult court system is based on the crime committed, whether it was a federal law that was broken or a state law that was broken. For minors, jurisdiction is based on age.
