  • Essay / Essay on Odysseus' Journey: Life is a journey from...

One similarity between my journey and Odysseus' is that I did not go through my battles alone. Odysseus received help from gods such as Athena who helped Telemachus find hope that his father was still alive, she helped Telemachus find a crew and she helped meet King Alcinous (The Odyssey p.86 and book 6). My family has been with me in all the good and bad situations of my life, they are like the Athena of my life. They helped me as much as they could and sometimes I don't see how much they do for me, just like Odysseus didn't see how Athena helped him along the way. However, when I realize that I have been helped, I try to show my gratitude. My way of showing gratitude is very different from that in books. Instead of sacrificing animals, I try to do something like cooking for my family or cooking for them. My friends would be like the crew of the Odyssey. They too have been with me and we have experienced many things together in life. We have a bond that can never be broken, like the bond between crew members. However, Odysseus's was not there from the beginning and did not go all the way with Odysseus. I have accepted the fact that friendships are sometimes temporary and so you have to overcome the bad times and enjoy the good times with friends because you never know when a friendship might develop.
