Essay / AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Review - 1073
AMD Phenom II adamant that no program needs more than two cores, so you should stop reading now. However, if you're a fan of technology, whether it's beneficial now or in the future, 2010 has to be one of the best years for CPU technology in a long time. Both AMD and Intel have introduced six-core processors and both have generated some excitement, rightly so, because six cores really are better than four. It is therefore not surprising that AMD released its first six-core part, several months after AMD. presented the 12-core server processor from Magny Cours (Istanbul). This processor was internally composed of two six-core chips, and as such it would have been a painless process to produce a processor with a single six-core chip. AMD has done just that and we find ourselves with a half Magny Cours CPU or as we like to call it, the best thing to come out of AMD in recent history. While it is true that few programs are currently available capable of taking advantage of more than four threads at any given time, it is good to have them for the multithreaded programs that are becoming more common. Before we look at the CPU itself and its performance, it's worth noting that this CPU was manufactured at Globalfoundries, which will be AMD's main manufacturing facility for CPUs and GPUs in the future. The new Thuban core can still be manufactured on the old 45nm node, but several improvements have been made to the manufacturing process and the proof is that, despite two additional cores, the total TDP remained...... middle of paper...... on the X6. Overall, this processor presents even greater value to the power user than the Phenom II X4. Not only is it faster, it runs worse, has Turbo Core technology, is highly overclockable, and has an incredible price. There's not much more a processor can offer for this price and we couldn't have asked for much more. If there was ever a time to truly go the AMD route for power users and overclockers, this would be it, as AMD has managed to produce its best work since the advent of the Athlon64.Reviewer: Neo SibekoBenchmark ResultsAward: Yes [Hardware]Score: 8/10Result: The 1090T is the most capable and exciting thing to happen to the AM3 platform since its advent.
