    The Elegy Written in a Country Cemetery by Thomas Gray is significant in that it not only mourns the deaths of ordinary men, but also examines how they should be remembered after their death. The speaker does not create a separation between rich and poor but considers everyone equal. Its main goal is to portray the reality that everyone must die. This poem has a moralistic side to human life. Gray points out that the rich and proud should not mock the simple lives of the poor when in reality they are like them in that they too must die and leave all their wealth and luxury behind them. This poem is not boring and offensive but rather inspiring and motivating. “Elegy written in a country cemetery” consists of one hundred and twenty-eight verses separated into thirty-two quatrains including an epitaph. Each of these quatrains is efficiently composed, precise and relevant. The transition of words and thoughts in each stanza flows smoothly and in an organized manner. The language and expressions are simple and without anything excessive or exaggerated. There is grace and meaning as he moves through the stanzas. Lines 1-12 of the poem begin in a cemetery with the speaker describing his surroundings in detail. The speaker highlights the auditory and visual descriptions when observing the area of ​​concern. For example, “curfew tolls,” “lowing flock,” “glittering landscape,” “solemn stillness,” “sleepy tinkles,” “biting owl” show the aural and visual descriptions the speaker uses to describe his environment. The speaker gives readers a sense of the lonely, still environment he currently finds himself in.
