    The day arrived for the Ceremony of the Twelve, which Jonas had been waiting for. As Jonas watched his friends receive their homework, he realized that he had been ignored. Even though he knew he had been ignored, he waited until after the ceremony to show his respect. He therefore constitutes a good model for his community. Later, at the end of the ceremony, the Elders explained that Jonas had been chosen as receiver. “In a firm, authoritative voice,” she announced, “Jonas has been selected to be our next recipient of memory (p. 60).” “He showed all the qualities a receiver should have (p. 62).” The Elders believed that Jonah possessed the qualities necessary for this task, including intelligence, integrity, courage, wisdom, and the ability to see beyond. As a catcher, he had rules to follow: he could ask any question, he wasn't allowed to discuss his workouts with family and friends, he wasn't allowed to share his dreams, he couldn't apply medication to training-related injuries, he couldn't ask to be released, and he can
